While it’s not exactly as groundbreaking as advertised, it certainly was exciting. The star announced that there would be a brand new John Cena Invitational Championship.
The winner of the tournament would be given the title, and the winner would be determined through fan voting. So a star that loses has the chance to win the title if they show enough hustle to impress the crowd.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter commented on the announcement and revealed the reality of what was going on behind the scenes of the new title announcement. The report said that the tournament, while announced, was still a work in progress. They had wanted to make an announcement, and that’s what they did, but further details of it, being a tournament or individual matches or the structure of what will happen when it finally takes place, have not yet been determined.
“Regarding the details of the John Cena Invitational, we were just told today that this is a work in progress. They wanted to make the announcement but as far as what it is, that is not decided so any speculation of tournament vs. individual matches or how the champions will be set up is just speculation.”
