Minecraft is known for its iconic blocks and unique building style, making it the bestselling title of all time. The studio has an amazing team of developers and directors who have worked on improving the title for decades. Now, Minecraft Game Art Director Jasper Boerstra had a few compliments for Pokémon’s latest title, Pokopia.

Minecraft is the definitive title when it comes to blocks and building, with decades of support and millions of players. Recently, Minecraft Game Art Director Jasper Boerstra took to the social media platform X, where he complimented Pokémon’s latest title, Pokopia. He goes on to say:

“Pokopia really got building AND their block textures right.”

Boerstra complimented the recently-released title that gained massive popularity for its laidback and unique gameplay style. He stated that not only did it master the art of building, but also the block textures at the same time. He expressed his appreciation for the title and the seamless balance of functionality and looks, a feature that is difficult to master.

Pokémon’s Pokopia has gained critical acclaim for its unique gameplay mechanism, where players rebuild habitats and uncover mysteries along the way. The title features many building and crafting areas, allowing players to create habitable areas for the Pokémons. One user even asked Boerstra if Pokopia drew inspiration from Minecraft, to which he replied:

Jasper states that it is highly possible since Minecraft is the “defining block game”. He stated that the block-shaped world could have inspired titles like Pokopia and Dragon Quest Builders. With over a decade of defending the title of one of the world’s most popular games, it comes as no surprise that the title has served as an inspiration for other games in one way or another.
