The IPL 2026 playoffs are set to kick off on Tuesday, May 26, with a high-octane Qualifier 1 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). The encounter is scheduled to take place at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
Defending champions RCB reached the playoffs 11 times in 19 seasons. Notably, they currently hold the unwanted record of losing the most matches in IPL playoffs. The Bengaluru-based side have lost 10 out of their 17 matches in the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals (DC) come next with nine defeats from 11 matches. Meanwhile, when we consider win percentage, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions (GL) have the worst record. Both teams have a win percentage of 0 after having played two playoff matches each.
Meanwhile, apart from RCB and GT, the other two teams that have qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs are SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). They will lock horns in the Eliminator at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Wednesday, May 27.
“Everything does not hinge on him” – Sanjay Manjrekar’s suggestion to RCB over Virat Kohli’s role ahead of IPL 2026 playoffs
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels RCB should not be overly dependent on former captain Virat Kohli in the crucial Qualifier 1 match. He noted that the ace batter tends to take a lot of responsibility on himself in big matches, which isn’t ideal for Bengaluru at this stage.
The cricketer-turned-commentator suggested that Kohli should continue batting the way he has throughout the season. Manjrekar told Sportstar:
“The approach of RCB must remain the same. Virat Kohli is a key player, but everything does not hinge on him, that is how they have become such a good team. It is important for Virat to keep playing in the same fashion, because he has a tendency in the final stages to take too much of the onus on himself, and if he does that, that is dangerous territory for RCB to be in. So, I think they should keep the same template.”
Virat Kohli is RCB’s leading run-scorer in IPL 2026 with 557 runs across 14 innings at a strike rate of 163.82.
