AEW’s women’s division is immensely talented. They have massive names like Mercedes Mone, Kris Statlander, Toni Storm, Marina Shafir, Megan Bayne, Jamie Hayter, and more. Thekla is the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion, while the TBS Title is currently vacant.
One of All Elite Wrestling’s rising stars is Maya World. The 23-year journey began in Ring of Honor in 2023. However, she soon made her debut in the Jacksonville-based promotion. World is gradually gaining momentum, and she will likely be a big part of Tony Khan’s plans in the future.
Maya World released an emotional statement a few hours ago on X. She revealed that her brother has passed away. In this status, she wrote that her brother is the reason she is now a professional wrestler.
“My brother is the reason I watched wrestling for the first time ever. we were just one year apart, everything I do in my career from here in out will be in his memory. god rest his soul 🤍 rest in peace brother 😭😭,” she wrote.
Sportskeeda Wrestling sends condolences to World. May her brother rest in peace.
ROH Women’s World Champion Athena calls AEW star Maya World her estranged daughter
Athena has a close relationship with World. In a recent interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, the Fallen Goddess showered the Dallas Native with praise. The ROH World Champion also called the 23-year-old her estranged daughter.
“Like mother, like estranged daughter, that’s what I like to say, before she decided not to join my team of MIT minions. Maya’s so good. Like she reminds me so much of myself. I love to tell her that she’s never going to amount to anything, ‘cause she’s already surpassed where I was in my career at that point in time. When I was her age, I was still trying to figure out who I was and grinding on the indies and look at her,” she said.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Maya World. She is an excellent wrestler, and it will not be surprising if she wins a singles title in AEW someday.
