A blockbuster match tonight on AEW Dynamite saw an abrupt end due to the ringside doctor and referee calling this off. But in the end, the stars involved in the match had the final say.
The opening contest of tonight’s show saw MJF and Rush face off for the AEW World Championship. Things were instantly heated between the two, as right before the show, Friedman got into it with the luchador backstage. It seemed as if the champion was trying to get into the head of his challenger and break his composure.
The match was as expected, full of immense physicality, and surprisingly, the Salt of the Earth was able to match El Toro Blanco’s pace. There was even a moment where he played dirty and ended up busting Rush open. This was a no-count-out contest, so both men were utilizing their time outside the ring. This resulted in spots where they came crashing through the ringside barricades and tables.
After several brutal moments, both men were incapacitated as they lay on the floor at ringside. The ringside doctor came in to check on both of them, and after speaking to the referee and ringside announcer, Justin Roberts, they announced that the match was to be called off as none of the competitors were fit to compete.
Rush was the first of the two to get back to his senses, and he took offense at this. He walked up to the doctor and ended up headbutting him.
Seeing as one of them was back up and running, this bout for the AEW world title continued. In the end, MJF was able to bounce back as well, and after several more great exchanges, he was able to force a referee stoppage as he put Rush to sleep with a submission hold.
