Triple H may have subtly hinted at which exact superstar might be the one to dethrone Cody Rhodes after he retained his title at WWE Clash in Italy 2026 in Turin.

Clash in Italy 2026 opened with the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line in a high-stakes, high-intensity match between Cody Rhodes and Gunther. It was quite the contest, and going into it, Cody had the psychological edge due to his victory over Gunther a couple of years ago at Crown Jewel 2024, as well as the fact that Cody eliminated Gunther in the end to win the Royal Rumble 2023. It will be another devastating blow for The Ring General as Cody got the better of him to retain the WWE Championship. However, the match ended this way due to a major refereeing botch/error, where he didn’t see that Gunther’s leg was under the rope for the first two counts of the three-count.

In doing so, Triple H was essentially protecting Gunther. There is little doubt now that this rivalry will go on for longer. Of course, if the last few years are to be seen as a pattern, The Game is not a big fan of World Title changes that don’t happen at WrestleMania or SummerSlam. Still, with SmackDown needing a huge shake-up, don’t be surprised to see The Ring General be the one to dethrone Cody Rhodes when they face off next.

In doing so, they would extend their rivalry for atleast a couple of more months. The only challenge is setting up a trilogy match for SummerSlam 2026. There is Night of Champions less than a month from now in Saudi Arabia, and then there is Money in the Bank 2026 in New Orleans.

Either way, we could be seeing a massive shake-up happen on SmackDown soon.
