Rennae Stubbs didn’t hesitate to slam trolls for their insulting remarks about Hailey Baptiste after the American suffered a serious injury at the 2026 French Open. The American entered the Roland Garros for the first time in her career as a seeded player and defeated the two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova in the first round.

She locked horns with Wang Xinyu in the second round. The misfortune occured when the American was trailing 4-5 in the first set. She returned Wang’s serve from behind the baseline and lost her balance as her foot reached the ground, coming down crashing on the court. Baptiste was seen in agony while holding her knee and had to be taken off the court in a wheelchair.

Baptiste received a few demeaning comments, with one critic suggesting her appearance was the cause of her fall.

“She needs to lose weight. Not trying to be insensitive but that type of thing could have been prevented with lower BF%,” the critic wrote.

The former Australian player Stubbs clapped back at the troll, writing:

“Do you know how many women tear their ACLs in sports!! like this is such a stupid comment to make!!! go do some research! ugh!!! the insensitivity of this comment just got me!!!”

When another heckler chimed in with a humiliating comment, saying:

“Absolutely. The extra body weight added so much pressure to the landing.”

Stubbs charged:

“And u!! youre just as stupid!”

Wang Xiyu received a walkover, and she will now take on Yuliaa Starodubtseva in the third round.

Hailey Baptiste saw off the 2021 French Open champion during her first round this year. She made a comeback from her first set to win 6-7(7), 7-6(6), 6-2. She reflected on her match and stated that a positive and composed mental approach helped her through the setbacks in the match.

“I just refuse to let myself be the reason that I lose a match and really focusing on being mentally strong and very positive even in the very tight, close moments,” she said “In my head I would love to break a racquet and scream, but I know that’s not going to help me. Me maybe laughing it off or just being super positive immediately after, it’s made a huge difference for me. I’m able to kind of just forget about it right away.” (via tennis.com)

The American had been on an impressive run recently. She defeated World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to reach the semifinal of the Madrid Open.
