Fans are grieving after an obituary for NASCAR star Kyle Busch after a fan written obituary was released this week, five days after the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion died at the age of 41. Fans flooded social media with emotional reactions as they struggled to process the sudden loss of one of the sport’s most recognizable drivers.

Busch died after severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, according to a statement released by his family. He had experienced shortness of breath, overheating, and coughing up blood shortly before his hospitalization.

An obituary, highlighting all of Busch’s achievements throughout his racing career, was shared online, and many fans admitted they were not emotionally ready to read it.

“I’ll read this one day but today isn’t the day 💔,” a fan wrote.

“Still doesn’t seem real,” another wrote.

“I still can’t believe that we won’t be seeing him at the tracks anymore 😢,’ yet another reacted.

Kyle Busch had raced less than a week before his death and increased NASCAR Truck Series win total to 69 before his condition worsened.

“His early racing days def reminds of the Kyle I remember from high school. Def arrogant and cocky and I wasn’t a fan lol. It was so nice to see him mature into the man that he became later on. What a loss to not only the racing world but to his family,” a fan shared.

Busch left behind one of the most decorated records in stock car racing. He won two Cup Series titles in 2015 and 2019 and collected the most wins ever, across the three top national series in NASCAR. He started his Cup career with Hendrick Motorsports and had a long successful run with Joe Gibbs Racing, before moving to Richard Childress Racing in 2023.

NASCAR honored Kyle Busch with an emotional pre-race ceremony at the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, where his family stood alongside drivers, team members, and NASCAR officials. His wife Samantha Busch and children Brexton and Lennix joined the tribute at Charlotte Motor Speedway and NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell told the family, “We’ve got you.”

The pre race concert also dedicated the song, When I Get Where I’m Going, to Busch.

“I didn’t think I’d have to play this song for this reason today. Love ya Kyle,” Brad Paisley said.

The Cup cars also carried a black No. 8 decals with Busch’s signature during the Coca-Cola 600 and the crowd rose during lap 8 of the race to pay another tribute to the late NASCAR legend.
