Jacoby Brissett wants to be treated like a starter, and he has made that desire clear.
On Monday, the veteran quarterback was absent from the first day of the Arizona Cardinals’ OTAs. He is entering the final year of a $12.5-million contract that he signed last season, but has been looking for a raise that will reflect his elevated status.
Thanks for the submission!

When asked about Brissets’s absence, coach Mike LaFleur said:
“It’s the same as where we were a few weeks ago. We’ve had contact. I’ll leave it at that.”
He continued:
“[Voluntary OTAs are] not mandatory. And like I’ve said with Jacoby, and all veterans I’ve ever been around, they’ve played football. The hardest thing to do in this league is get used to the speed of the game. … He’s played a lot of football. He’s done probably everything we’ve ever done schematically, it’s just a little bit different verbiage.”
Meanwhile, wide receiver Michael Wilson spoke highly of Brissett:
“Words can’t describe how I feel about playing with Jacoby. … I’m not going to hold anything against Jacoby because he’s trying to figure out his situation … but it’s business as usual.”

Jacoby Brissett risking job security by skipping Cardinals’ OTAs, says insider
Holdouts are not uncommon in the NFL, but for someone like Jacoby Brissett to do it is rather surprising, given his lack of prominence throughout his NFL career. And for Arizona Sports’ Dan Bickley, it is a dangerous gamble that could backfire on him:
“He is making it very easy on the Cardinals to send him elsewhere, including the curb, and maybe that’s the point. Unfortunately, he’s also making it easy for football fans in Arizona to turn nasty, forgetful of how good he was in 2025.”
He adds:
“Should they choose, the Cardinals have an easy offramp with Brissett. They acquired Gardner Minshew, whose free-spirit personality always wins over the room. They drafted Carson Beck. If the Cardinals are truly focused on player development in 2026 and potential draft status in 2027, Brissett does not belong here.”
The Cardinals’ season begins at the Los Angeles Chargers on September 13. Kickoff is at 2:25 p.m. MT on CBS.
