The New York Giants hired John Harbaugh as their new coach on Jan.17, only 11 days after the Baltimore Ravens fired him. On Saturday, Harbaugh was invited to deliver the commencement address at his alma mater, Miami (OH)’s graduation ceremony, and he used his departure from Baltimore to inspire students with his speech.

“There are going to be tough times,” Harbaugh said. “You might get a call with some bad news. Maybe about your job. Maybe they will tell you they don’t want you anymore, and it’s time to move on. … You will come to understand there is a great opportunity on the next horizon of your life.”

When fans caught wind of Harbaugh’s comments, they slammed the veteran coach.

“‘You gon get fired one day too’ is quite the message for graduation lmao,” a third commented.

Here are a few more reactions.

“Did he mention that those students should take responsibility for the actions that resulted in them receiving that phone call?” one wrote.

“I’m actually glad we moved on from him… every single day,” another added.

“Was supposed to be fired 6 years ago btw,” a user tweeted.
