Ronda Rousey announced her retirement from MMA after her submission win against Gina Carano on Saturday. Rousey returned to the cage after a decade away and submitted her opponent in 17 seconds.

In a special post dedicated to her, ESPN shared pictures of Rousey thanking her for her iconic career.

“RONDA ROUSEY SUBMITS GINA CARANO IN 17 SECONDS TO WIN IN HER MMA RETURN 🤯What a way to finish on a high note in her MMA career,” wrote ESPN.

Rousey won the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Championship and the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship in her illustrious career before retiring for the first time in 2016.

She dominated pro-wrestling, too. In 2018, Ronda made her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 and won the RAW Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2018. She then went on to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship twice. She held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with her best friend and fellow MMA star, Shayna Baszler.

CM Punk predicted Ronda Rousey’s win over Gina Carano

CM Punk was in attendance for Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano’s MVP MMA fight. This marked Rousey’s first match since her loss to Amanda Nunes in 2016. Punk, who has The Baddest Woman on the Planet compete in WWE as well, chose Rousey to come out on top.

“I would be remiss to not go with Ronda Rousey. I think she’s gonna do what she always did, she’s gonna march forward, she’s gonna clench, she’s gonna throw and she’s gonna armbar,” Punk said.

Punk specifically predicted that Rousey would win via armbar, which is what happened.

Rousey took Carano down within three seconds and quickly set up an armbar that her opponent could not stave off. Carano ended up tapping out without having landed a single strike.
