It can be hard to find clothes that properly fit my 5’0” frame, especially when it comes to finding wedding guest dresses. I’m always tempted to buy a floor-sweeping maxi dress, but a regular size with my height would be dragging behind me rather than elegantly swaying around my ankles. But after years of shopping for formal dresses, I’ve finally figured out what to look for – and I’ve found some personal favorites too.

I would rather avoid a trip to the tailor if possible, so I usually look for dresses made in petite sizes, which are almost guaranteed to fit perfectly. Petite sizes can be hard to come by, so when I can’t find them, I usually shop for shorter lengths in A-line or bodycon styles that won’t overwhelm my frame. And when I want something longer, a midi dress usually ends up looking more like a maxi on me. I’m sharing some of my favorite picks below so shopping can be a little easier for you.

15 Petite-Friendly Wedding Guest Dresses

1. My Favorite: This satin midi dress has a tighter fit that shows off curves instead of looking too big or overwhelming on a smaller frame. It might be a little longer than a midi length, but it ends up looking elegant regardless.

2. Runner-Up: A shorter dress is almost always a safe bet when shopping for a petite-friendly dress, and I love the flattering wrap style of this one. The flutter sleeves and ruffle hem are extra pretty details.

3. A Maxi That Fits: Unless I want to pay extra for tailoring, I can’t buy a maxi dress if it’s not a petite size. Fortunately, this one is, and that, combined with the high-low hem, means it should fit perfectly. The cascading ruffle makes it feel so glamorous, too.

4. Timeless Elegance: You can’t go wrong with a black gown for almost any type of wedding. This one features a cold shoulder I actually find chic, along with flattering draping that hides your tummy.

5. Show-Off Style: I love this strappy midi dress because it’s available in petite sizes and the straps are adjustable, which means there’s a better chance of them fitting my small torso. The floral print is so pretty, too.

Wedding season is swiftly approaching, and I’m preparing for the five nuptials I’ll be attending this summer. I can’t possibly wear the same dress to all of them, right? Right! That said, I find shopping for wedding guest dresses to be a challenge because I’m so short, that is until I stumbled upon these petite-friendly […]

6. Classic Wrap: This wrap-style dress is flattering on everyone, even petite frames, and it’s a style I gravitate towards often. The mesh fabric keeps it lightweight, and the shorter hem is perfect for a less formal wedding.

7. Old Hollywood Glam: Made of thick scuba crepe, this petite ruffled gown is comfortable and just snug enough. It has flattering ruching throughout, and a one-shoulder design that makes it feel extra glam.

8. Minimalist Chic: This simple silk slip dress is a staple in my closet. It’s versatile enough to dress up for a wedding (or dress down for another event), the silk is smooth and soft and it fits just right. Plus, it’s washable, so it’s more low-maintenance.

9. Little Black Dress: There’s nothing overly exciting about this black mini dress, but it offers a classic style that you can wear again and again, which is always a plus. The boat neck and flouncy skirt make it fun.

10. Built-In Bra: I love this silky maxi dress for a few reasons: it comes in petite sizes for a better fit, it has a built-in bra that is actually supportive and the drop waist style feels so on-trend. Snag it in the dusty blue color while you can.

11. Worth the Splurge: This silk maxi dress has the most gorgeous silhouette, and since it comes in petite sizes, the flowy skirt won’t feel too long or overwhelming. The halter and deep V-neck make it extra special.

12. Not So Subtle: If you’re going for bold, this frilly midi dress should be your pick. I usually avoid large details like this, but since this comes in petite sizes, it will likely work – and it’s also fun, glam and so chic.

13. Elongating Style: This pleated chiffon dress is simple but so elegant. The empire waist right underneath the bust and monochromatic color make it elongate your figure, so you might even look taller in it.

14. Delicate Florals: With a pretty floral design and tassel-inspired straps, this petite midi dress is perfect for a spring wedding. The flowing skirt makes it easy to dance the night away, too.

15. Butter Yellow: I love this simple satin dress, which has a high neckline and side slit that can elongate your frame. The twist in the open back detail makes it stand out more, and the butter yellow color will definitely get you compliments.
