Instagram is getting a dose of star power with Sandra Bullock‘s new account, but she’s not following anyone else’s playbook.

“It didn’t feel like it would ever be my thing,” Bullock, 61, said about joining the platform during an appearance at CNBC’s Changemakers 2026 event in New York City on Thursday, April 16. “I do have two kids, and I was like, I need to figure this out. So I’d been on social media, but quietly, just to learn and shop.”

The actress said she wanted a game plan after being approached by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group cochair Pamela Abdy to launch her account as a way to support the release of her upcoming film Practical Magic 2. (Bullock reprises her famed role as Sally Owens alongside Nicole Kidman, who is also returning as her iconic character, Gillian “Gilly” Owens.)

“I’m not spontaneous,” Bullock admitted while chatting about Instagram with Abdy and CNBC’s Julia Boorstin. “I need to think about it. How does that affect what I can contribute? How badly can I f*** it up? Which, that will come, and I’m just going to lean into that.”

During the event, she confessed to asking for advice on how to post during a visit to the studio. “OK, talk to me, tell me what you see, because if I need to be able to make myself look like an idiot and have fun, I will not be doing selfies or makeup tutorials,” she shared.

“I’m excited to see how I can contribute,” Bullock added, quipping, “And if it works after the film is over, maybe I will do a makeup line.”

Bullock created her account in February 2026 and already has racked up an impressive 5 million followers, with only two posts on her grid. Her first post was only two days ago on Wednesday, April 15, showing the star doing a bit of margarita magic. “I’ll have margaritas with you anytime 💕,” Kidman, 58, replied in the comments section.

In 2019, Bullock revealed that she and Kidman didn’t initially drink while shooting the boozy dance scene in the original film. “We weren’t drunk when we shot these parts or when we did our close-ups,” Bullock told People at the time. “But we had to reshoot a scene where it was far away and we were on our backs and Nicole just put the bottle on the table and said, ‘You know what? There’s no reason we shouldn’t be drunk here.’ And I said, ‘You know what? That’s true.’”
