Nick Khan has finally addressed one of the WWE’s biggest issues in terms of talent and shared how a meeting with Triple H helped solve the problem.
In an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, the popular basketball analyst asked Khan about the aging faces of the WWE, which include Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre.
Thanks for the submission!
Nick Khan explained that he already spoke to Triple H about the growing issue, and they found the answer on NXT with Shawn Michaels and Matt Bloom. Khan added that young stars like Oba Femi, Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans are not the only prospects getting called up to the main roster this year.
“We went down to our Performance Center to see Shawn Michaels and Matt Bloom who run that on a day to day basis and run NXT with us. And we said, ‘Okay, let’s take a look at the talent here. … (HBK) said, ‘We need to be able to take NXT on the road.’ ‘Great, no problem, give us a week.’ We came back to Shawn, ‘Let’s take it on the road starting in a month,’ or whatever it was. And then you saw the quick acceleration of Oba Femi, Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, soon to be others coming up from NXT,” Khan said. [H/T WrestleTalk]
Oba Femi, Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans are all in the WrestleMania 42 match card. Oba will face Brock Lesnar in a one-on-one match, Williams is scheduled to challenge Sami Zayn for the United States Championship and Evans is part of the Six-Pack Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship.
Triple H opens up about WWE fanbase frustration with creative
In an interview with Joe Tessitore on WWE’s YouTube channel, Triple H was asked about the building frustration among fans on social media about the creative direction of some storylines on television.
“Believe me, I’m the first guy going, ‘That didn’t work. That wasn’t good. We screwed up there.’ Sometimes you’re putting things out there. You’re like, ‘Eh, this’ll be decent. This is not going to be A++.’ It has to ebb and flow throughout the year. There’s times when, you know like, ‘This show will be good. It’s not going to be guns blazing.’ There’s times when, you know you gotta put your foot on the gas,” Triple H said. [H/T 411 Mania]
It will be interesting to see if WWE can deliver what’s best for the fans at WrestleMania 42 this coming weekend in Las Vegas.
