Growing up in a polygamous family impacted how Mykelti Brown has decided to raise her own children.

“Friendly reminder from a new mom who had five different women show her what motherhood looked like and still felt completely unprepared if you feel lost trying to figure out your own parenting style that makes sense ,” Brown, 29, said in a Saturday, April 11, social media video. “In a plural family, you don’t really get one parenting model. You’re just absorbing five different ones.”

Mykelti is one of Kody Brown’s daughters with Christine Brown. Kody, 57, once had respective spiritual marriages with Christine, 53, Janelle Brown, Meri Brown and Robyn Brown. Kody legally divorced Meri, 55, in 2014 in order to marry Robyn, 47, and adopt her three children from a previous relationship. Christine, Meri and Janelle, 56, have all since separated from Kody, who is now in a monogamous relationship with Robyn.

When Kody practiced polygamy, his wives and 18 children all lived in the same neighborhood. After leaving her family’s plural lifestyle behind, Mykelti married Antonio Padron in 2016. They welcomed daughter Avalon in 2021 and twins Archer and Ace in 2022.
