Tiger Woods’ recent crash has already drawn strong reactions, but what he did right after it has now become a talking point of its own.
Woods was arrested on suspicion of impairment following a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, before being released on bail. During the search, officers found two pills in his pocket, which were later identified as hydrocodone.
Thanks for the submission!
While many have criticised Woods for the incident itself, Megyn Kelly focused on what happened moments after the crash. Speaking on her show, she questioned why Woods chose to call Donald Trump from the scene.
“As soon as he rolled the car and got out of it… he called the president, which is a douche move,” she said.
Kelly then tried to break down why that call may have happened. She pointed out that Woods and Trump have known each other for years through golf, and also mentioned the personal link, with Trump’s former daughter-in-law Vanessa currently dating Woods.
She also brought up a recent TV appearance by Trump, where he had spoken about Woods’ Masters chances suggesting he may have shared something that wasn’t meant to be public. Kelly said there is a chance Trump called to apologise but she doesn’t see that as likely given how quickly the call happened.
“I’m gonna go with Tiger called him and asked for some help because he knew this was going to be a PR disaster and potentially a legal one,” she said.
Bodycam footage from the scene adds more context. Tiger Woods was heard telling a deputy, “I was just talking to the president,” shortly after the crash. While the call itself wasn’t recorded, he could be heard saying “Thank you so much” before hanging up.
The crash itself did not leave anyone injured. Tiger Woods later told officers he had been looking at his phone and adjusting the radio before losing control of the vehicle.
He tested negative on a breath test but refused a urine test which led to an additional charge. He has since pleaded not guilty.
Possible next steps for Tiger Woods as focus shifts to recovery
For now putting the controversy aside Tiger Woods’ main focus seems to be getting back to full health. In a brief statement shared on social media Woods said he needs time away from the game to deal with the situation and focus on recovery.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” he wrote.
That decision was followed by another key update. Court documents cited by People magazine showed that Tiger Woods has been allowed to leave Florida for treatment outside the United States. His doctor reportedly advised that he seek care abroad saying the required level of treatment may not be available locally.
That’s where things get interesting. According to TMZ Sports Woods’ private jet was spotted in Zurich earlier this week. The aircraft stayed there for around 10 hours before leaving. There is still no confirmation if Woods himself was on board but the timing has drawn attention.
Woods has been dealing with injuries for years and has undergone several surgeries which have kept him away from regular play. His last official start came at The Open Championship in 2024.
