The German Bundesliga returns with a fresh set of fixtures as Werder Bremen and Mainz square off at the Weserstadion on Sunday. While Mainz have struggled of late, Daniel Thioune’s men are on the up and will be looking to secure a third win on the bounce.

Werder Bremen have picked up 25 points from their 25 Bundesliga games so far to sit 13th in the league standings, one point above 15th-placed Mainz and 16th-placed St. Pauli in the relegation playoff spot.
Elsewhere, Mainz were guilty of a lack of sting in attack on Thursday when they squandered several clear-cut scoring chances before settling for a goalless draw against Sigma Olomouc in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League last-16 clash.
This was in keeping with their struggles in the Bundesliga, where Urs Fischer’s men have failed to win their last four matches, losing once and claiming three draws, having won the three games preceding this run.
While Mainz will be looking to find their feet this weekend, they have failed to win their last six games against Werder Bremen, losing four and claiming two draws since a 2-0 victory in October 2022.
