AJ Styles revealed a dream opponent in WWE that he never got the opportunity to share the ring with. The veteran retired from in-ring competition following his loss to Gunther at the Royal Rumble earlier this year in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking on the Talk’n Shop podcast with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Styles noted that he never got the chance to battle Penta. The former champion added that he would have liked the chance to battle Penta’s brother, Rey Fenix, as well.

“Penta’s up there. Yeah, just because I never had the opportunity to do it, you know, and he’s such a great guy. He’s so good. I would love to been able to do that. But there’s there’s always going to be a couple guys that be like, ‘Oh man, dang it. I missed that one. I missed that one. I missed that one.’ Yeah, Rey’s definitely another one I wish I would have been able to get in the ring with. Like, those guys are freaking — they’re so freaking good,” he said. [H/T: 411Mania]

WWE legend comments on AJ Styles’ retirement

Wrestling icon John Cena recently shared his thoughts on AJ Styles’ retirement from in-ring competition.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Cena stated that The Phenomenal One has earned the right to do whatever he wants in his retirement. The WWE legend shared that AJ Styles had devoted his life to wrestling and deserved to enjoy his time outside the ring.

“What do I think AJ Styles should do next? Gosh, he has earned the right to do whatever he damn well wants. He has spent so much of his life really risking his health for all of the fans of sports entertainment. He was NWA World Champion, he dominated over in Japan, he worked for TNA, he worked for WWE. He can do whatever he wants. He has earned that right,” Cena said. (H/T SI.com)
