Marvel’s Wolverine was the first game out of the gate at the PlayStation State of Play June 2026, and it set the tone for the entire show immediately. Creative director Marcus Smith introduced a brand new section of gameplay, and what followed was one of the more visceral and impressive gameplay reveals in recent memory.
There is a lot to break down here, from the story setup to the combat mechanics to the moment that had everyone talking. Here is everything shown during the PlayStation State of Play June 2026.
Everything revealed in Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay trailer at PlayStation State of Play June 2026
The story setup and who Logan is up against

The gameplay segment for one of the best games during PlayStation State of Play June 2026 opens with Logan tracking a group of mutants who have been hunted down and captured by the Reavers, a cybernetic guns-for-hire militia loaded with advanced technology, lethal weapons, and cybernetic implants. The Reavers are not working alone either.
Their client is Bolivar Trask, a billionaire industrialist described as being driven by a fanatical belief in human superiority. The mutants are essentially being delivered to him, and Logan is the only thing standing between them and whatever Trask has planned.

Jean Grey shows up during Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay trailer

Mid-sequence, Jean Grey appears in a cutscene as Logan is attempting to save a mutant child. The two end up teaming up against Trask’s hired guns, and they handle themselves well together on screen. There are no signs that Jean will be playable at this stage, but her presence in the story is clearly going to be significant.
Seeing her alongside Logan in that context adds a layer to what this game is building narratively.
How Wolverine’s combat system works in the gameplay trailer

The combat in Marvel’s Wolverine looks weighty and deliberate, which is what it should feel like. Logan has access to special combat moves called Techniques, two of which are Tornado Spin and Bull Rush. Each one has a distinct visual identity and clearly serves a different purpose in a fight.
What was impossible to ignore, though, is just how violent this game is. The moment Logan enters combat, his yellow suit is immediately soaked in red. Every exchange with the Reavers results in blood flying across the screen, and taking down an opponent with the claws up close leaves Logan practically covered in it. It is more of committing fully to what Wolverine actually is.
Anyone who remembers the 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine game from Activision will find some familiar energy here, but Marvel’s Wolverine is clearly operating at a completely different level both visually and mechanically.
And yes, Logan is wearing the classic yellow suit, which will immediately remind anyone who saw the Deadpool and Wolverine film of exactly that look.
The Rage system and what Tier 3 actually looks like

Every successful attack, parry, and kill builds up a Rage meter. Once it climbs to Tier 3, the game shifts into a visual mode inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White, and Blood series. It is a striking visual choice, and it looks unlike anything currently in the genre. The explosion of savagery that comes with it is clearly designed to be a high point in any combat encounter, and it lands.
Logan can also channel his rage to activate Last Stand, which kicks his Healing Factor into gear. This is particularly relevant when facing the larger, more powerful enemies shown in the trailer, the kind that would otherwise be able to absorb significant punishment without going down.
The motorcycle chase sequence breakdown

One of the standout set pieces in the trailer during PlayStation State of Play June 2026 involves Logan on a motorcycle, going off-road and pursuing a convoy of trucks in a short but chaotic sequence. Enemies open fire on him during the chase, and he responds by launching himself onto one of the trucks and tearing through whoever is on it.
What follows is a running series of moments that show off Logan’s mobility and brutality simultaneously:
- He drives his claws into opponents and hurls them off moving vehicles.
- He kicks enemies off the trucks mid-chase, with lines like ‘Get out of my way!’ punctuating the action.
- He jumps between platforms and drops down from above to kill enemies, slash tires, and throw Reavers off the road entirely.
- He leaps between different vehicles and takes on powerful Brutes that the Reavers throw at him as the chase escalates.
It is a cinematic sequence that also manages to show off how the combat translates to a moving, chaotic environment rather than just a contained arena.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches on September 15, 2026, and pre-orders are open now.
