“Ruined everything with that second lead”

tvN’s Our Universe encountered rising viewer criticism after episode 9 aired on March 4. The series stars Bae In-hyuk as Sun Tae-hyung and Roh Jeong-eui as Woo Hyun-jin. Initially, the drama attracted attention through its family-centered premise. The narrative followed two in-laws caring for their orphaned nephew, Woo-joo. Thus, the early story focused on grief, recovery, and quiet domestic bonding between the two main leads.

However, the latest episode shifted the storyline toward a romantic rivalry. The second male lead, portrayed by Park Seo-ham, gained stronger narrative presence. Consequently, the plot began revolving around a developing love triangle. Therefore, viewers argued the drama’s original emotional focus became diluted.

Meanwhile, discussion threads across social media expanded quickly. Many viewers described the triangle as “forced.” Furthermore, some posts claimed the subplot weakens the main couple’s emotional moments. Because of this, Tae-hyung and Hyun-jin’s relationship progression appears less central.

Several reactions also pointed to the second lead’s frequent involvement. The character repeatedly interrupts scenes between the central pair. Thereby, the romantic tension stretches across multiple sequences.

“Deserved, they ruined everything with that second lead and atp the FL is annoying too💀 I 100% think without her and the sml the drama would be going places because people only like Taehyung and Woojoo atp 😐 we wanted a cute romcom, the second lead and the FL have ZERO chemistry,” an X user commented.

Moreover, audiences highlighted the importance of Woo-joo within the storyline. The child character originally anchored the drama’s family tone. Therefore, many viewers said the nephew-focused dynamic drew them to the series. Even now, some comments mention watching mainly for Woo-joo and Tae-hyung interactions. Thus, those scenes remain widely discussed online.

It’s bittersweet how a perfect drama has been ruined by the forced massive presence of a POINTLESS love triangle without any substantial character development for the FL. #OurUniverse could have been perfect, now only Woo Joo + Tae Hyung are keeping us here #OurUniverseep9

yes we want more uncle taehyung and woojoo moment rather than the love triangle.. 🙄 @CJnDrama 2 episode lefts the drama will lower rate if they continue the love triangle… i really disappoint the writer..

Ugh. The only reason I’m sticking around until the end is Woojoo and Taehyung. It’s just that the love triangle storyline is getting really annoying.#ouruniverse

Others say the love triangle took the Our Universe story in a different direction.

i thought the main characters were the baby and the uncle but why is it only focusing on the love triangle? and the baby literally has little screentime? the writer of this k-drama needs to quit already bcs it doesn’t make sense anymore.

The fact that they started with two people taking care of their nephew and then showing us boring sunbae scenes which nobody wants

The fact that everyone started watching Our Universe for the adorable baby, but they turned it into a full fledged love triangle that ruined the individual characters.#OurUniverse #OurUniverseEp9
