Derrick Henry delivered a heartfelt message to his former coach, Nick Saban, on Sunday after the legendary college football coach praised former Alabama players for their support for Nick’s Kid Foundation. This highlights the strong bond between the player and the coach.

In an interview at the foundation’s luncheon, Saban opened up about the profound impact his charity works have had on generations of Crimson Tide players. He specifically highlighted the Baltimore Ravens star’s generosity, noting what the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner supplies to the event.

“I think an unintended consequence of this is we have a lot of players who have foundations now because they had the experience of giving back and helping mixed kids when they were student-athletes,” Saban said.

“Like Derrick Henry gives a book bag to all the kids that we have at our Nick’s Kids luncheon, the first day of fall camp. So, all these things, to me, have a cumulative effect of how it helps other people have a chance to be successful and impact.”

“Love ya coach 🐐🤞🏾🐘,” Henry wrote on X.

Derrick Henry discusses his self-critical practice habit

Derrick Henry has remained one of the dominant running backs in the NFL over the years, and his elite mentality has played a big role in that. In his media availability at the Ravens’ OTA, he gave a detailed explanation of how critical of himself he is during practice.

“I’m always critical of myself,” Henry said. “Whatever rep I take, whether it’s an individual or we’re doing run tracks or I’m taking a rep. We’ve got the video pad out there to watch the play, the rep that we just did, so I’m going back to watch that

“So, I’m always trying to work as hard as I can. Get as much out of the rep. I like to be a vocal leader, but I like my work to show. And when I need to speak, I will. I’m just trying to be a great example for myself and also the young guys, being a helping hand when I need to.”

Derrick Henry is aiming for another 1,000+ rushing yard season in 2026, after reaching the goal in the last four. He will also be aiming to help the Ravens challenge for the Super Bowl next season, following a disappointing 2025, where they missed the playoffs.
