Mumbai Indians’ (MI) playoffs hopes were dashed with a two-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Sunday, May 11. Bengaluru chased down a 167-run target in a thrilling last-ball finish to climb to the top of the points table.
Mumbai suffered a batting collapse after being put to bat first. Tilak Varma (57 off 42) and Naman Dhir (47 off 32) helped the side get to a fighting total with their important knocks.
RCB too were off to a poor start with the bat, losing three wickets in the powerplay. However, Krunal Pandya stood tall under pressure, playing an important 73-run knock from 46 balls.
The side required 15 runs from the final over. Raj Bawa bowled the all-important over for Mumbai. Bengaluru edged past Mumbai in the dramatic finish, thanks to a crucial fourth-ball six by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
With the win, Bengaluru climbed to the top of the points table. The defending champions have seven wins from 11 games. Mumbai, on the other hand, have just 3 wins from 11 matches and are languishing in the ninth spot.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran through MI’s top order with a stunning new-ball spell. He put Bengaluru in a commanding position by removing Ryan Rickelton, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav in the powerplay. The veteran pacer bagged a four-wicket haul in the contest.
Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir fought hard with an 82-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, the side still failed to post a daunting total and ultimately suffered a heartbreaking defeat.
Corbin Bosch was the pick of the MI bowlers with a four-wicket haul. Deepak Chahar also did a commendable job, claiming Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal’s wickets early in the run chase.
