AJ Styles may have ridden into the sunset and retired from wrestling, but he remains an important figure, mentoring up-and-coming stars and shaping the future of the industry. Styles recently shared insight into why rehearsal is necessary before a match.
On The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, AJ Styles broke down what happens before a fight.
Thanks for the submission!
“Once you get to the ring, there will be some things we’ll rehearse. And by ‘rehearse’, we’re not rehearsing the wrestling, we’re not doing that. But we wanna see what cameras are going to be in the position that we’re doing a certain thing, so we can get the best shot. That’s kind of what we rehearse. Or maybe somebody does a run-in. You kinda wanna see how everything’s done so we can get the best shot. So those things happen,” Styles said (26:53 onwards)
The Phenomenal One is now mentoring NXT stars to help them achieve their best. He was with Sean Legacy, Kali Armstrong, and Lexis King last week. He could go more developmental and focus on LFG and EVOLVE in the future.
AJ Styles speaks on SmackDown’s Fatal Influence
AJ Styles also spoke about NXT talents who were recently called up. Styles stated that the heel faction currently on SmackDown is carrying itself well.
“I’ll tell you what I like about that group is they look like the kind of people that would bully my daughter, and that makes me mad. So I was like, ‘Oh, they’re doing so good.’ It’s the opposite of how I would feel, but knowing what they’re doing and how they’re doing their job, and they’re doing it well. I’m like, ‘Alright, keep doing what you’re doing. This is good. This is good stuff,” said AJ Styles (14:02 onwards).
According to Styles, the heat they receive could only make them bigger stars.
