The Ottawa Senators find themselves 2-0 down in Round 1 of the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs against the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen shutout the Senators in Game 1, leading the Hurricanes to a 2-0 victory. Game 2 went to double overtime after both teams scored two goals each through 80 minutes. In 2OT, Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook scored the game-winning goal, after missing a penalty shot in first overtime period.
The Ottawa Senators have been knocking at the door in each of the two games so far, but haven’t been able to breach Frederik Andersen enough to seal a victory. Even when they have had clear-cut chances, Brady Tkachuk & co., have failed to convert those opportunities.
“We played a really good game. Had tons of chances to score and win it, [but we] didn’t. That’s how it goes sometimes,” said the Senators captain after Game 2 loss.

Artem Zub continues to be out for the Ottawa Senators after sustaining a lower-body injury in Game 1, and will miss Game 3 tonight. Zub did not participate in optional practice on Wednesday morning, after which HC Travis Green mentioned that the forward may return some time this series.
“When you’re playing for something prestigious as a Stanley Cup, when you lose a game like that, it hurts, it should hurt,” said Green about Senators’ guttiing 2OT loss in Game 2.
