Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in the eighth match of IPL 2026 on Saturday, April 4, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With two wins in two games, DC moved up to the top position in the points table, while MI slipped to sixth spot.
After being invited to bat first, MI managed to score 162/6 in 20 overs on a two-paced track. Suryakumar Yadav (51) led his side from the front in the batting department with a half-century. Rohit Sharma (35), Naman Dhir (28), Mitchell Santner (18*), and Corbin Bosch (11*) chipped in with vital contributions to take their side to a respectable total. Right-arm pacer Mukesh Kumar (2/26) was the pick of DC bowlers.
DC then got off to a poor start, as they collapsed to 7/2 in just 1.4 overs. Sameer Rizvi rescued them yet again with a blistering knock of 90 (51), shepherding the Capitals towards the target. Opener Pathum Nissanka (44) and middle-order batter David Miller (21*) lent support to Rizvi during his match-winning performance.

At the post-match presentation, MI skipper Suryakumar Yadav reflected on the defeat, saying:
“I think it was a decent wicket. Expected it to be a bit slow. From a batting point of view, we fell short by a few runs. (His thoughts on Rizvi’s game-changing innings) Absolutely amazing! Coming in at 7-2, if someone can bat like that then credit to them. He never allowed us to make a comeback. The pitch didn’t change too much in the second innings.”
He continued:
“It stayed pretty much the same way, but it’s there batting that stood out and really made the difference. They understood the conditions well and adapted accordingly. I think when you are batting first, it’s not about getting to a score. You just have to get on with it. I think 180 would have been good. I am absolutely happy. It’s just a matter of getting to the drawing board and getting our plans right.”
