Euphoria season 3 honors the late Angus Cloud by making the poignant creative choice to keep his beloved character, Fezco, alive within the show’s universe. Following the show’s premiere on April 12, 2026, creator Sam Levinson explained that while he could not save the actor in real life, he felt a deep responsibility to let the character continue his journey. In an interview with Variety, Levinson said:
“There’s a lot of scenes where people are talking to him on the phone. I thought, if I couldn’t keep him alive in life, then maybe within this show I could keep him alive.”
Sam Levinson on keeping Angus Cloud’s character alive in Euphoria season 3
In a conversation with Variety, Sam Levinson spoke openly about the emotional impact of losing Angus Cloud and how it shaped his perspective on grief, life, and the meaning behind personal loss. He stated:
“Losing Angus was a tragedy. I spent a lot of time trying to make sure that he was healthy, and when he passed, I was very angry. He’s one of 70,000 people that died of a fentanyl overdose in this country in that year. There’s a lot of questions that poses as an individual who’s loved someone and lost them. What is this all about? What does this mean? And I think death has a way of giving life its meaning. You realize how much the small moments matter. The interactions, the good deeds, the way you talk to the people around you. It reveals how precious life is.”
Euphoria season 3 reveals that Fezco is serving a 30-year prison sentence following the violent raid at the end of season 2. He is first mentioned during a conversation between Rue (Zendaya) and Lexi (Maude Apatow).
Rue tells Lexi that she should call Fez, but Lexi seems uneasy and admits she knows that already. She says she has just been busy. Rue then mentions that Fez has said several times that he misses Lexi. In response, Lexi explains that their schedules never seem to match, using it as a reason for not reaching out. Then Rue says:
“Just pick up the phone and call him. It’s not like he’s going anywhere. He’s in prison for 30 years.”
The premiere of Euphoria season 3 closes with a heartfelt “in memoriam” tribute honoring Angus Cloud. The note also remembers Eric Dane and executive producer Kevin Turen, acknowledging their contributions and marking their loss.
Season 3 is led by Zendaya as Rue. The main cast also includes Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, and Maude Apatow. Supporting stars like Colman Domingo and Dominic Fike also reprise their roles.
Euphoria season 3 episode 1 is now streaming on HBO Max.
